Journal #6 Photo Sharing

Photography sharing is literally sharing photographs with others via the Internet. You can share photographs by uploading them and putting them on your blog page, web page, sending them with an e-mail attachment, and posting them as your picture for an online dating service.

Using a website like Flickr (you can sign up for free) you can upload your pictures and organize them in a variety of ways. You can organize your photos into sets with common themes (usually a few photos) or you can organize them into collections (usually several photos). Once you have organized them you can then share them with others.

There are three options for sharing your photos with others. You can share them publicly, publicly by invitation only, and privately. Within these three options you can create a discussion board where you can discuss problems or concerns you have with other people who are also photosharing.

A recent addition to Flickr is the ability to add photos to maps. If you took a trip and wanted to show everyone exactly where you took a certain photo, Flickr now lets you accomplish this task. Flickr also lets you create a variety of ways to display your photos. You can create blurb photo books (tells a story), image kind prints, moo cards (aka business cards), photo books (random collection of photos) and calendars, postage stamps, and photo cubes.

In the discussion boards I followed people mostly asked questions about how to solve problems they were having with the technology. One person asked how to include hotspots, a source of information that appears when you drag your mouse over a photo, on some of her photos. Another person wanted to get others involved in taking a photo on a certain day at a certain time different places in the country and then posting them in a collection.

There are so many ways to share photos with other people that the possibilities seem endless. You can use photo sharing to enhance anything you create online.

Good ideas for the use of Photoshop! And I see how photo sharing is so easy to do, and can be fun.

Good to know about Photoshop - I used to just delete or toss bad photos - some just need a little touch up! I haven't done much photo sharing mainly due to ignorance - your article has me taking a second look. Thanks!

I agree that photographs are a powerful learning tool. Sometimes no amount of description can compare to a photo...for example history. I've personally been moved by seeing photos of the Great Depression and past wars. In regards to the Adobe Photoshop, I have a girlfriend who has learned to use this program and it can really make an average picture more visually appealing...I love seeing the results.

Photosharing is a great way to use our digital photos, especially since so few people actually have hard copies of their photos these days. Good information about about Photoshop, I have not used the program much but would like to.

This sounds like a cool project for students to do. I wonder what the overall applications for this tool are in different disciplines. Would this be part of a larger project where students are adding photos to a project? Maybe students can do art work for a literature class and do a comic strip on something they read and share their work that way. I think the applications are endless and lots of fun.

I always wanted to get into photoshop because I have heard such great things about it. My family has some pictures of old family members that I would like to touch up. I think the program can also be used for creating posters.

I have tried to use photoshop and its not as easy as it seems. But you are right it is a great tool for fixing "bad" pics for yourself. I for sure need to a better understanding for how to use photoshot.

I have never actually used Photoshop but it is nice to know that it isn't very hard to use. I always forget that sharing photos is such any easy thing to do with all the programs available today so this was a nice reminder.

I think that photo sharing sounds like a fantastic tool. I know that, for me, it is a pain trying to get photos to or from friends over the web. This seems like a great alternative to e-mails or burning cd’s for everyone.

Good to know about photoshop. Sometimes we get so caught up in the fancy stuff we forget about the badic tools we have. Teaching children how to use photopshop to play with pictures and to upload photographs to their blogs, book reports or other computer creations is a great and easy way to allow them to be creative and help learn how to personalize their works.

Photo sharing is awesome. I use it a lot living away from home to share photos with my family. I think that there are a lot of cool projects that educators can use in the classroom with photos.
